Position Overview:
The Verge is looking for a meticulous and skilled Copy Editor to uphold the publication’s editorial standards across a variety of platforms. As the final checkpoint before content is published, this role ensures clarity, accuracy, inclusivity, and alignment with the brand’s voice. This position will play a key role in maintaining high-quality content, particularly as the company expands its subscription offerings like paid newsletters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and update The Verge’s style guide to reflect consistent language and tone, creating specific guidance for timely news topics.
• Copy edit content for the website, podcasts, videos, and newsletters, including paid offerings like Command Line and Notepad.
• Collaborate on special projects and provide editorial support to ensure polished and impactful output.
• Contribute to internal communications, co-writing newsletters to share updates on style and editorial guidelines.
• Fact-check and edit additional content for off-platform projects, including marketing materials and event promotions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least three years of professional copy editing experience, ideally in digital-first publishing.
• Expertise in grammar, punctuation, and editorial accuracy, with a commitment to inclusivity and clarity.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Familiarity with The Verge’s focus areas, such as technology, science, and internet culture.
• Experience in fact-checking, data visualization editing, or sensitivity reads is a plus.

Working Environment:
This is a remote role, but candidates should be available to work East Coast hours.

Compensation & Benefits:
The position offers a salary of $65,000 per year, along with a benefits package. The role is part of the Vox Media Union under the Writers Guild of America, East.
