Role Summary
Bionews seeks a talented and empathetic Health Content Editor with a background in health/medical journalism and some SEO expertise. In this role, you’ll collaborate with writers, science editors, and copy editors to produce clear, engaging, and empathetic content tailored to rare disease patients and caregivers. This is a full-time remote position, with a preference for U.S.-based candidates. International candidates with strong qualifications will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Editing & Content Creation:
- Edit a range of health-related articles, from light features to in-depth research-based pieces, ensuring adherence to Bionews editorial standards.
- Edit medical content to ensure it is consumer-friendly, clear, and engaging.
- Incorporate SEO best practices into all content.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with writers, science editors, and copy editors to maintain the quality, tone, and voice of the brand.
- Provide clear directions when assigning or revising stories.
- Content Management:
- Assign articles from pitches or SEO-driven content plans.
- Manage custom editorial hubs for client partnerships.
- Help manage the editorial calendar and ensure deadlines are met.
- Freelance Management:
- Recruit and oversee freelance writers, ensuring they meet Bionews’ standards.
Requirements
About You
- Excellent editing skills with a strong understanding of AP style.
- Skilled in editing medical copy to be accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
- Experienced in assigning and editing diverse article types (informational, narrative, profiles, etc.).
- A creative thinker with sharp editorial instincts and a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
- Strong attention to detail, editorial judgment, and a passion for accuracy and clarity.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or related field (or 5+ years of relevant experience).
- 3+ years of editorial experience, preferably in health/medical content or journalism.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communicator (both written and oral).
- Empathetic editor capable of connecting with writers and understanding patient needs.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Strong work ethic with a team-oriented mindset, thriving in a remote work environment.
- Deadline-driven, with the ability to handle fast-paced projects.
